NNL is currently welcoming proposals from university academics for access to NNL facilities, equipment and capabilities across our sites as listed on pages 45-69 of the NIRO UK Nuclear Fission R&D Catalogue.
The call is open from 12th September to 7th October 2022 for experiments to be performed during the period of November 2022 to March 2023.
This is an opportunity for academics to support the Nuclear Decommissioning Authority’s mission and contribute to the clean-up of the UK’s civil nuclear legacy whilst gaining first-hand experience of working with active materials on a nuclear site. We are excited to be working with the NDA on this new call, enabling access to our world-leading facilities, which is a key element of NNL’s S&T Agenda.
The call includes access to Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council (EPSRC), National Nuclear User Facility (NNUF) and the Henry Royce Institute (HRI) funded equipment.
To be considered for user access in this call, academics must submit a proposal outlining their experiments. A panel will assess and provide feedback for all submissions, whether successful or not.
NNL will cover facility and equipment costs, including supervising the experiments and equipment usage. The attached document provides full information, including funding details, selection criteria and project scheduling. This document also contains the proposal form, which should be completed and submitted to the NNL User Access Team via email by 23:59 on 7th October.
NNL will be hosting a briefing webinar on Thursday, 22nd September at 10am to share more about this opportunity and answer questions from interested academics. To register your interest, please email the NNL User Access Team.
NNL hosted a briefing webinar in September to share more about this opportunity, view the slides from that webinar online.
