The Technical Support Officer is a position of responsibility within NNL supporting the Senior Technical Support Officer (STSO) to ensure the company’s continued compliance to all regulations governing the nuclear industry and Site Licence Conditions. The role holder shall be responsible for ensuring that the arrangements for all NNL Sellafield Facilities under their management comply with all relevant environmental, health, safety, security and management system requirements in order to allow safe occupancy by people.

The job holder will be detail orientated and be able to work to deadlines.

Main Responsibilities for Technical Support Officer (Building Management):

  • You will be SQEPd in the following roles; Building Manager, Legionella Responsible Person, Asbestos Coordinator, Task Supervisor.
  • Support management/compliance of Legionella, Fire Safety Regulations and Asbestos arrangements including logbooks and Management Plans and Safety Signs and Signals (inc DSEAR).
  • Undertake review of Emergency Facilities state of readiness including Building Control Point and resolve deficiencies (including instructions) and welfare facilities and raising and managing issues on databases.
  • Support with regulation compliance including Building and Construction Design Management, Workplace (Health, Safety and Welfare) and Dangerous Substances and Explosive Atmospheres (DSEAR).
  • Support Management of office and external space within local buildings footprint and support sustainability management/improvements and input into Annual Sustainability Report.
  • Support to Senior Technical Support Officer with building inductions (including conducting) and maintaining routine building access and liaising with other stakeholders and teams.
  • Conduct audits and observations to monitor standards and support production of papers for Safety Committees.
  • Point of contact for Facility Users.
  • Support any Operations Support Team as required/requested.
  • Lead/Organise/Attend Stakeholder meetings as required.
  • Undertake other activities commensurate with their skills and experience as and when required.

Essential Criteria for Technical Support Officer (Building Management):

  • Ability to analyse information and understanding of when to escalate where decisions based upon this information are required.
  • Highly motivated with the ability to communicate concepts.
  • Ability to remain calm in pressured circumstances.
  • Ability to influence and negotiate with NNL employees and external stakeholders.
  • Experience in incident and emergency response, particularly in Building Control duties.
  • Ability to communicate key information both verbal and written with stakeholders.
  • Demonstrable knowledge of the operational & maintenance requirements associated with their area(s) of control.
  • Experience of Building Management.
  • GCSEs in Maths, English and Science Grade C or equivalent.
  • Ability to obtain SC level security clearance (this includes but is not limited to identity, employment, financial and criminal record checks plus 5 years’ worth of UK residency).

Desirable Criteria for Technical Support Officer (Building Management):

  • Proven experience of managing safety, environmental, welfare and security requirements in a Building Management capacity.
  • Experience of working with or knowledge of Asbestos and Legionella.
  • Nebosh General and Fire Desirable.
