Our role is to provide independent strategic advice and guidance to Government across a range of nuclear and energy-related activities. Our purpose is to enhance the deployment of a safe, secure, sustainable and reliable civil nuclear life cycle through high quality, informed and independent advice to Government. NIRO plays a role in advising government on priorities for the delivery of nuclear energy to de-carbonise the UK whilst maintaining the standards expected from the mature UK nuclear industry in the UK.

This is an unrivalled opportunity to play a highly visible and influential role in an organisation that will shape the safe, efficient future of nuclear in the UK and as such we are seeking as diverse a range of candidates as possible.

The Portfolio Office Manager reports to the Head of the Technical Portfolio.

The Technical Portfolio comprises all the current and future technical activities that are or will be delivered across Sellafield Ltd to realise the delivery of Sellafield’s Technical Baseline.

These will be managed through a Technical Portfolio Management Office (PMO). The aim of Portfolio Management (as opposed to Programme Management) is to collectively manage a group of current or proposed ‘projects’ aligned to numerous common characteristics, to determine the optimal resource mix and integrated schedule, considering any constraints, risks and opportunities.

The portfolio will also be cognisant of technical and operational delivery successes and failures and facilitate a learning culture to drive delivery improvements. The PMO will also aim to balance the Business as Usual (BAU) with change activities required to transition the organisations to enable “fit for the future”.

In the case of the Technical Portfolio the key characteristic is the use of scarce technical capability (people and facilities), including SL, NNL & the wider supply chain, to deliver technical solutions to achieve and improve on the SL Technical Baseline.

We will also consider candidates based in Warrington, must be willing to travel to work with the team in Whitehaven on a regular basis.
