The NNL Metallography team are key to ensuing delivery of a high-quality Post Irradiation Evaluation programme in support of UK nuclear.  The Materials Science role is a fantastic opportunity to understand and learn more about PIE, including sample preparation & remote handling techniques, optical microscopy, electron microscopy, and other analysis techniques. You will work alongside experienced team members, on active & non-active samples, to deliver key data to customers. Full training will be provided through an established career pathway, into the technical and senior technical lead of the future.

Waste Processing Services Chemistry

An exciting opportunity exists to join this team as a chemist making a real difference as part of NNL’s environmental remediation focus area. 

A vital part of the UK nuclear mission is to deal with the historic legacy of waste created since the dawn of the industry in the 1950s. Sellafield is home to a wide variety of complex waste types and forms, all of which have their own unique challenges. The NNL Waste Processing Services team’s focus is on thermal treatment technologies and the development, enhancement, and refinement of techniques across a broad spectrum of waste types.

Materials Scientist

This role is required to create long term succession in the Post Irradiation Examination materials testing and rig development area. It is essential that a materials qualified person is brought into this role so they have the fundamental knowledge that this qualification brings.

The role will involve collecting and analysing data on irradiated material characteristics and testing. The role will also involve aspects of measurement technique development including implementing new techniques/methods and assisting in improvement of existing techniques.
