Mechanical Craft Apprenticeship Level 3 (Sellafield)
Our Craft Mechanics specialise in the maintenance and manufacture of mechanical equipment to ensure optimum and consistent performance levels. Mechanical craftspeople are highly skilled and can work in a wide variety of industries and sectors with complex plant and equipment.
Following your first year with a training provider you will then join the NNL Craft Team and attend college on a day release basis. On this apprenticeship you will be following the Maintenance and Operations Engineering Technician Level 3 Standard.
Main responsibilities include performing planned maintenance and replacement of components, assembling and installing machinery, interpreting drawings and diagrams and the use of a range of workshop machinery.
You will be expected to work with precision and accuracy, approach work logically with thorough attention to detail whilst working with your colleagues to ensure work is carried out to a high standard.
You should have attained or be on track to achieving 5 GCSE’s 4-9 (Old Grading A-C) including Maths & English.

Electrical & Instrumentation Craft Apprenticeship Level 3 (Sellafield)
Our Craft Electricians maintain and repair a diverse range of electrical equipment that is essential to the safety and efficiency of all areas of our sites. Highly skilled with a logical and methodical approach to their work, electricians work with electrical equipment and supplies on a wide range of engineering machinery and equipment.
Your first year with a training provider will teach you all the key engineering skills you will require as part of your apprenticeship. You will learn about electrical installation, maintenance, soldering, fault finding, electronics, instrumentation, electrical safety, safe use of tools, engineering drawing etc. Following your first year at the training school you will then join the NNL Craft Team and attend college on a day release basis.
On this apprenticeship you will be following the Maintenance and Operations Engineering Technician Level 3 Standard. You should have attained or be on track to achieving 5 GCSE’s 4-9 (Old Grading A-C) including Maths & English.

As a Laboratory Technician Scientific Apprentice, you will be working at the forefront of the nuclear research and development programme that makes NNL one of the world leaders in nuclear energy. You will support our nuclear research and development by operating our process equipment, testing and calibration of equipment as well as undertaking investigations and analysis of samples.
You will learn about nuclear operations and processes, calibrations, measurement and analysis methods and you will be conducting investigations and tests, assessing technical data, and contributing to technical reports and developing presentation techniques.
For this apprenticeship subject to pre-qualifications you will follow the Higher National Diploma or a Foundation Degree as a Technician Scientist.
You should have attained a 5 GCSE’s 4-9 (Old Grading A-C) including Maths, English and a Science. You should also have or be on track to complete a level 3 qualification, such as A–levels, or completed an advanced apprenticeship in a STEM related subject providing the appropriate number of UCAS points for entry to a level 5 HE programmes. You must be 18 years or over by September 2024.

Health, Safety & Quality Business Administration Apprenticeship Level 3 (Sellafield)
Working in the EHS&Q (Environment, Health, Safety & Quality) team, you will be responsible for overseeing and supporting the ongoing maintenance and operation of NNL key operational systems ensuring all duties are undertaken in a way in which to support the business achieving its strategic and operational goals with regards to EHS&Q performance.
Your duties will include producing and circulating reports, dashboards and KPI matrices, supporting colleagues on the use of operational systems and coordinating training requirements and issues in relation to NNL management systems.
On this apprenticeship you will be following the you will be following the Project Controls Technician, Level 3 Standard. You’ll already have a good academic background when you apply for an apprenticeship with us. You should have attained 5 GCSE’s 4-9 (Old Grading A-C) including Maths & English.

Project Controls Technician Apprenticeship Level 3 (Workington)
As a Project Controls Technician, you will be controlling, monitoring and systematically analysing progress and performance data on engineering and infrastructure projects. You will require strong analytical skills and a practical approach to interpret technical information. You will developing your experience of using specific, complex software tools to undertake a wide range of project controls tasks, including: identifying the right data for scrutinising progress; setting baseline targets; tracking progress and performance; forecasting trends; identifying, modelling and anticipating deviations from baseline; assessing the impact of design/construction changes; and using insight to recommend early preventative and remedial actions.
The successful candidate will develop skills in the technical disciplines of estimating, planning, scheduling and cost engineering for which this apprenticeship gives a comprehensive grounding. Working as part of a project team on complex projects in the Nuclear sector where detailed progress /performance tracking, and an understanding of on-site hazards, health and safety requirements and compliance is critical. This is a hands-on role that is crucial to ensuring the successful delivery of complex projects.

Professional Services, Business Administration Apprenticeship Level 3 (Warrington)
The Business Administration role will involve working independently as well as part of a team and will involve developing, implementing, maintaining, and improving administrative services. The role will also involve developing your key skills and behaviours to support and enhance your own progression. You will spend time working in each of the four following department: Procurement, Commercial, Finance and Bids.
You will deliver your responsibilities with efficiently and integrity – showing a positive attitude. The role involves demonstrating strong communication skills (both written and verbal) and adopting a proactive approach to developing and enhancing your own skill set. You should have the ability to show initiative, managing priorities and your own time, problem-solving skills and decision-making.
You will be following the Business Administrator, Level 3 Standard. To join the NNL apprenticeship scheme you’ll already have a good academic background and should have attained, or be on track to achieving 5 GCSE’s 4-9 (Old Grading A-C) including Maths & English. You will be 16 or over by September 2024.

Safety Assessment Apprenticeship Level 5 (Sellafield)
As a Safety Assessment apprentice, you will play a fundamental part in ensuring nuclear operations are carried out safely. You will be involved in desk-based activities, computational modelling, plant visits in the areas of radiological safety and shielding, chemical safety, nuclear safety, human performance and security. You will work with our enthusiastic safety professionals to support engineers, operators, scientists, etc. as we help to safely deliver some of the most interesting developments in the nuclear sector.
For this apprenticeship subject to pre-qualifications you will follow the Higher National Diploma as a Nuclear Technician.
You should have attained a 5 GCSE’s 9-4 (A-C) including Maths and English. You should also have or be on track to complete a Level 3 qualification, such as A–levels, or completed an advanced apprenticeship in a STEM related subject providing the appropriate number of UCAS points for entry to a level 5 HE programme. You must be 18 years or over by September 2024.
