NNL’s response to government’s £120 million Future Nuclear Enabling Fund and Great British Nuclear appointment

NNL very much welcomes the Future Nuclear Enabling Fund announcement today. This means £120m of government funding will help support the development of new nuclear power plant projects – assisting the UK to retain a strong nuclear component in the energy mix and to keep our net zero ambitions on track. The Fund is open to both traditional larger projects and to Small Modular Reactors (SMRs), and we’re especially pleased to note the specific reference to bringing fresh innovation to the market. We also welcome the appointment of Simon Bowen as the Industry Adviser to the new Great British Nuclear organisation, and we look forward to working with him and his colleagues to help bring new nuclear plants forward to investment decisions, as highlighted in the government’s recent Energy Security Strategy this April.”
