NNL wins top UK safety award

National Nuclear Laboratory (NNL) is delighted to have won the RoSPA Research and Development Industry Sector Award for 2010. This means that NNL is the top R&D organisation for health and safety in the UK.

NNL has now won this award in six out of the last seven years. The ‘unsuccessful’ year saw us being ‘Highly Commended’.

RoSPA – the Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents – Safety Awards have been recognising health and safety success for over 50 years. The Sector Awards are very competitive and recognised the organisations that have demonstrated the best health and safety management performance within their industrial sector. To be named as a finalist, NNL had to demonstrate a consistently excellent and continuously improving performance with evidence of initiative and an innovative approach to safety.

NNL Managing Director Mike Lawrence said:

“This has been a great safety year across the board and the entire organisation should be extremely proud. Our performance has been excellent and we announced in February that we had successfully achieved six million hours without a Days Away Case (DAC). Our last DAC incident occurred in November 2005. We are now aiming for 7 million hours.”

NNL operates out of locations at Sellafield, Workington, Preston and Warrington.
