NNL contributes to Environment Agency Consultations

The UK’s National Nuclear Laboratory has made submissions to two current consultations being run by the Environment Agency:

  • Deep Geological Disposal Facilities for Radioactive Wastes: Guidance on Requirements for Authorisation
  • Near-Surface Disposal Facilities for radioactive wastes: Guidance on Requirements for Authorisation

You can download NNL’s submissions by using the links on the right hand side.

The Environment Agency are updating their guidance in these areas because of developments in UK law and policy and revised international advice and recommendations. For the Deep Geological Disposal guidance, the Agency are also taking the opportunity to address the disposal of higher activity wastes, which were not covered by the 1997 guidance. For Near-Surface Disposal guidance, the Agency recognise that specific guidance for near-surface facilities is required.
