Latest information for NNL Employees
Friday 8th January 2010
As part of business continuity, daily meetings are being held to assess the effects of the current adverse weather on NNL and any mitigating actions required to be put in place. We recognise that there is a national grit shortage and are making efforts to find alternative sources of salt to be distributed to our sites to supplement gritting by our landlords.
All NNL sites are currently open. However, it is likely that the weather will again deteriorate over the weekend including new snowfall onto already icy ground. The advice issued in previous communications is still applicable:
As a general principle please do not assume that any road, path or car park will be gritted and take additional care. Employees should wear appropriate winter footwear. The latest travel and weather reports can be found at:

Owing to the ongoing changes in weather conditions and site access arrangements, this situation will continue to be reviewed daily and we will update you and our Union representatives. If you are not at work, you can check www.nnl.co.uk/weather for the latest information.
Thank you for your continuing support.
Facilities
Wednesday 6th January 2010
All of our sites continue to be affected by the adverse weather. All NNL facilities have been open today, although further snow is expected at Harwell and Stonehouse.
Local to our facilities, gritting is generally the responsibility of our Landlords. However, NNL facilities teams have been supplementing this by additional gritting of pathways where possible. Potential future shortages will lead to prioritisation on the Springfields and Sellafield sites which means that some areas of the site may not be gritted as much as we would like. A particular problem is car parks where grit and sun exposure has
been limited.
We have been advised that gritting will commence around Chadwick House this
evening.
We have assessed how the situation may impact on our operations and the way
forward:
Stonehouse and Harwell are still expecting adverse weather conditions. Employees should follow the advice from local radio and Police.
As a general principle please do not assume that any road, path or car park will be gritted and take additional care. Employees should wear appropriate winter footwear.
Throughout this period we ask all NNL employees to adopt the safest possible approach and not put themselves or others at risk. Please continue to listen to local radio and follow advice from the Police with regards to travel. If you do not believe you can travel to work safely then please stay at home.
