Kevin Hesketh is the National Nuclear Laboratory's (NNL) Senior Fellow in Nuclear Systems Analysis
What's your background?
I graduated in 1975 with a Physics degree from Manchester University and joined UKAEA at the Culham Laboratory working on fusion physics. In 1980, I joined BNFL and started working on reactor physics relating to the Sizewell B PWR. Since the 1990s I have been involved various nuclear physics roles - including a secondment to Westinghouse.
What sort of areas are you currently involved in?
I am the UK representative on the OECD Nuclear Energy Agency Nuclear Science Committee (NSC) and have been involved in several NSC working groups. I am Chair of the NSC Working Group on Reactor Systems and chaired the Expert Group on Very High Burnups in LWRs. I am also a Fellow of the Institute of Physics (IOP) and have recently had an opportunity to contribute to developing IOP policy with regard to UK nuclear energy.
What is your take on the Senior Fellow role?
I intend to use my role to promote the development of analysis methods and tools across the whole of the nuclear industry. There is a degree of overlap with the Senior Fellows in Criticality and Reactor Systems and I look forward to collaborating closely with them.
