Disposal>Low Level Waste (LLW)

NNL has significant experience in supporting the disposal of Low Level Waste (LLW) and has provided this support for many years. NNL provides customers with a full range of environmental management services, including undertaking contaminated land assessments and site investigations, the production of environmental risk assessments and environmental safety cases, advising on remediation technology and supporting customers through the regulatory approvals process. For example, NNL undertook the LLW Repository Post Closure Safety Case and resultant supporting work.

NNL also uses its track record in LLW treatment processes to provide optioneering services to its customers in order to assist them in reducing the volume and quantity of waste consigned as LLW. With increasing pressure on the disposal space available, this aspect of our work is proving to be a key focus. The wide range of contacts which NNL has on the UK nuclear licensed sites, NNL has a detailed understanding of the waste arisings from the sites and hence has a unique overview of the UK national waste picture. Because of this, we are able to undertake work to support the UK LLW strategy in order to achieve best value for customers and taxpayers alike.
