Site Characterisation

The National Nuclear Laboratory has extensive experience in the characterisation and assessment of contaminated land and nuclear waste disposal sites.

Site characterisation is an essential component of environmental assessments and includes the design and implementation of data collection strategies relevant to contaminated land, decommissioning and disposal. The nature and extent of such an investigation is customised for your specific project - from the very simple to the very complex.

Services

  • identification of historical land use and associated potential contamination.
  • design and implementation of integrated, cost-effective site investigation programmes
  • site-wide groundwater monitoring programmes
  • development of innovative, non-intrusive and less-intrusive site investigation techniques
  • implementation of geophysics surveys to provide cost effective determination of below-ground inventory data
  • in-situ and on-site chemical (organic and inorganic) and radiological analysis.
  • determination of geochemical and mineralogical characteristics and their impact on contaminant behaviour.
