NNL was recently invited to participate in the ‘Energise your Future’ event which brought together the education and energy sectors to showcase a dynamic industry. The event was a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths) based careers fair aimed at inspiring and educating young people.

Part of the national ‘Your Future’ programme, the one day event involved some 700 students (Aged 13-16) from 15 different schools. Also open to parents and the public, this provided an opportunity for everyone to network.

As an exhibitor at this event, NNL focused on the theme of ‘corrosion science in industry’. A variety of demonstrations were available to show the importance and impact of corrosion science including, interactive displays showing real life examples, microscope demos of interesting samples showing ‘investigate corrosion’, time-lapse videos demonstrating ‘accelerated corrosion’ and live electrochemistry using a smartphone was used to show ‘listening to corrosion’.

The day was a great success, allowing NNL to engage directly with students and help them to find out more about the nuclear industry, careers and routes of entry.

Ian Mean, Director of Business West for Gloucestershire, commented:
