National Capability

With the announcement of the National Nuclear Laboratory, the Government has signalled its commitment to protect the UK's national nuclear technology capability. The NNL is already supporting that commitment by employing a strategy that proactively sustains and develops nuclear technology skills to deliver for customers and maintain capabilities of strategic national importance. This strategy will develop further with the establishment of the NNL.

With a team of experienced professionals, NNL holds an unrivalled breadth of technology expertise, including many skills unique to the UK. Some 29 key skill areas have already been identified as being of high value to the nuclear technology sector and we have taken responsibility to maintain and protect them on behalf of the nation.

Our resourcing strategy features well established processes for targeted recruitment. In addition, we have extensive experience in securing high calibre individuals who have specialist technical skills in areas of scarcity. For existing personnel, training and re-training schemes are available to refresh the skill base and resolve skill shortages.

Relationships with Academia

As implementation of the NNL continues, we will continue to build relationships with academia and strengthen the quality of nuclear related skills coming into the industry via our University Research Alliances (URAs).
