On March 23rd 2009, the UK Government's Department of Energy and Climate Change announced that a consortium made up of Serco, Battelle and the University of Manchester was the preferred bidder in the competition to manage the UK's National Nuclear Laboratory.
On Friday 3rd April, the contract was signed and the new management team took over responsibility for the business at midnight on Sunday 5th April.
Laboratory management is a core competence of all three organisations and between them, Serco, Battelle and the University of Manchester managed ten Government owned Contractor operated (GoCo) national laboratories in the UK and US, including the NNL.
An experienced and innovative management team has been put in place to ensure a successful future for the National Nuclear Laboratory.
